Spring 2022 Newsletter
Namaste and happy spring or autumn everyone! No matter where you are in the world, we are excited to shout out hellos to our Namaste Children’s Fund (NCF) and Bo M. Karlsson Foundation (BMKF) communities. We are thrilled to report that the NCF team is on the ground in Nepal right now throughout the month of May, visiting our students and staff for the first time in two years! Perfect timing as NCF recently opened up a new hostel in Kathmandu that can accommodate the growing number of students who are completing their secondary studies at Laboratory School in Kathmandu.
NCF Project Manager, Jasper Hanowell, visiting with NCF college students in Kathmandu, Nepal. Aslika, Ruguma, Anurupa, and Pabina (left to right) are all studying to become nurses. They hope to return to their home villages after graduation and work to provide better healthcare in the remote area. We are so proud of them! (April, 2022)
NCF’s New Hostel
With the growing number of students graduating from the Simikot Hostel and moving to Kathmandu for their secondary schooling, NCF decided to re-locate to a new hostel that is much bigger than the previous hostel in Pharping so now all the girls can live together and be much closer to their school!
Due to the pandemic in 2020-2022, domestic travel has been severely restricted. This May, we have 18 highly motivated students moving from Simikot in the remote Himalayas to join their older didi (sisters/friends) in Kathmandu. Our new hostel has 30 rooms and can house 120 students and staff members if needed. It has a large kitchen and dining area and rooftop access where the girls can dry their clothes and do other outdoor activities.
Namaste Children's Fund is proud to announce our first Engineering student Anjali Bohara. Anjali has been with NCF since she was 7 years old. She is quick witted, has a gentle spirit and makes friends easily. Both of her parents are farmers in Thehe village and she is the youngest of 5 children. This is an exciting beginning of a whole new world for Anjali! Congratulations!
