Located in the Himalayas, in the Humla District, our boarding school serves 50 young Nepali girls. Our teachers instruct Science, Social Studies, Math, English, and Nepali. Humla is one of the poorest and most remote districts of Nepal and is home to 45,000 people. While this secluded region is rich in breathtaking scenery and Himalayan culture, most of the Humla district lacks basic development and infrastructure such as roads, irrigation and electricity. The hostel provides boarding, school uniforms, nutritious meals, a quality education, and leadership experiences for our students.

Sonam Lama came to Simikot Hostel in 2015 and has been a wonderful addition to our school. She has excelled in her classes and is a terrific athlete usually winning games that include jumping high over a rope and running fast during tag. She loves to dance and watch Nepali music videos learning the moves that her favorite singers use.

As of 2020, Sonam is completing Class 5 and will soon to travel to Kathmandu to attend day school and live at the Hostel in Kirtipur with the older girls. She is really excited to continue her education and has big dreams to become a doctor. She has three best friends in her class who will also be moving with her to the new school and she is grateful to have them. We are so proud of her hard work and upbeat attitude.
