Gratitude, Yoga and Multiple Intelligence’s

May 2019.

Namaste to our circle of Friends and Supporters!
A few weeks ago in April 2019, as I was boarding Nepal's Yeti's Airlines tiny airplane from the hot & muggy plains of Nepalgunj to the snow capped Himalayan mountains of Simikot, a wave of gratitude washed over me. I started to recount the number of times I have made this trip over the 11 years since we started Namaste Children's Fund (NCF).  I have been to Nepal over a dozen times and each trip is unique and a precious chance to connect with its marvelous people and culture. This year, I was joined by NCF supporter Katie Zang and my daughter Karina Crean, a senior high school student. Both of them gave me the gift of "fresh eyes" as we continue to build and guide our NCF organization to educate girls from the remote Humla region in the Himalayan mountains in Nepal.  We hope you will enjoy this newsletter as we give you a snapshot of life in Nepal for our students, staff and visitors in 2019. Namaste!  Cora Edmonds, NCF Co-Founder

We have 9 kindergarteners joining our hostel this year and our most senior student finished high school and has taken her final exam at community nursing in college in Kathmandu.  For 2019 our staff and team are providing proper nutrition, h…

Dal Bhat, the traditional Nepalese meal of rice, lentil soup, and curried vegetables. The potatoes were grown in the school garden at the Simikot Hostel.

Our schools partnered with Days for Girls International (DFG) in Nepal to provide health knowledge training, self-advocacy and washable feminine hygiene kits to our students.  For students who are from remote areas without access to menstrual hygiene products, the DFG kits are a pathway to dignity, health and opportunity.

Our multi-talented, long-time sponsor and supporter for NCF, Katie Zang volunteered to lead several workshops on Multiple Intelligence’s and Yoga for our students at both our Simikot and Pharping Hostels.  Everyone including students, teachers and staff were fascinated by the topic, content and applications of her workshops. Thank you Katie!

I recently looked through one of our Senior student's school notebook and marveled at how far she and her education has come from her humble remote hometown of Thehe in the Himalayas. Education is truly the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world!
