After exploring many options, NCF determined that it would be more culturally appropriate and economically viable to improve education for children directly in Humla, rather than sending children to boarding school.
In 2009, a boarding hostel was established in the town of Simikot, capitol of Humla and only a few hours walk from Thehe village. 26 girls were initially chosen by the Thehe village committee, an equal number of girls from each district of Thehe village to ensure equal representation between districts and castes.
In 2010, NCF has begun expanding operations to create a full school in Simikot to accompany the hostel. The existing school in Thehe village is still being supported, but lack of space and amenenties in the village prevent Thehe from expanding their school. Creating a new school in Simikot has been determined to be the best option for increasing access to education for Thehe children.

For several months, NCF rented a building in Simikot for the hostel. Currently, NCF has purchased and begun developing the land to build our own school and boarding hostel. The hostel is staffed by Thehe villagers (above right) and our full-time representative in Thehe, Suresh Bohara (middle of group).

NCF General Manger Chimey Sherpa (above left) visits the hostel regularly and oversees all NCF operations in the Humla region. When girls from Thehe are awarded an NCF scholarship by their village council, the scholarship covers all school fees, boarding, clothing and school uniforms, school supplies, and health check-ups (above right).
